transcript

Welcome back, your dreams were your ticket out, welcome back that same old place the cheek well then since you hung around but those dreams every vein, and they turn around, they need you Hey, what's going on?

You're welcome back.

All right, to the second break session of the day.

We have one more after this.

Hopefully you are doing well and being productive.

Yeah.

So I wanted to talk about this thing happening.

It happens every December, and we may have spoken about it before.

I am not sure what I wanted.

Because I was reminded about it because I went to a meet-up recently shelter, Orlando Js.

And I wanted to I got the website working and I actually got this stream the Meetup, which is pretty cool.

So I wanted to kind of show it and so it's like going to walk you through what we're going to be talking about for this break session.

So I kind of want to lead up to it, right?

And so, This is the side.

I created otech, dot events, like it says, a place to watch Orlando Tech talks, and so I added the ability to live stream so that the event organizer can just kind of like log in to the site and then stream as it is during like covid.

Because a lot of the boot that Buchanan's but the meetups weren't happy virtually a lot of them.

Just kind of like stopped.

So nobody really used it or anything.

So I was like, I you Don't let me call streaming the events anyway, and so I just was like my first opportunity to get back into streaming meet up since I was in town and so, but yeah, this is pretty cool.

Like, when you refresh it, Yeah, so it pops up in the back background.

Then we have like upcoming they were talking about this for not sure.

Then we have like archive so the background like the, the text changes and stuff.

All right, neither here nor there some of the upcoming.

Oh yeah, there's this thing coming up Tuesday.

All right, make sure to check that out.

That's coming up.

But yeah, you can actually, like, you get more information, get the details.

You get a map shows you where it's at?

You can tweet about the event, which I will probably do about this one.

And later Shots Orlando developer Community.

Oh devs.

And yeah, if you like the information and then you can check out more information on meet up.

All right?

With all that being said, let us get to the actual point.

So I under archive, so the most recent one was your land OJs meet up and its back as you can see here and so when you view more information, that you will notice that there's a video there now, right?

And, so I kind of wanted to just take a look because the reason the thing I am going to talk about happens around, so I have like a whole be right back screen so you can see in the beginning.

I have like a starting soon and this is kind of like the layout of everything I have it to where you can also just show the, that's not gonna welcome.

Oh yeah.

So you can see.

We also have it so the fourth full camera and then if you're sharing a screen, but the one I wanted to talk about is actually done this room before here we go.

And so this is Brian.

He's actually my instructor at the coding bootcamp, and so he's going to talk about the thing.

I want to talk about really quickly so it's check this out real quick.

And I am going to redo it.

I need to fix the CSS on this page, but the way I do it.

Now, we have a, we have a newer way of doing it and it's going to look a lot better.

It's going to be cooler but neither here nor there, here we go.

You got to hear the noise about it will pop up at some point.

Here we go.

And all these Christmas-themed puzzles that are released midnight eastern time from December 1st through December 25th.

So, if you go to Adventist do.com, you can see there's a little Advent calendar, and the countdown were almost four hours away.

Oh, I see.

So, yeah, we're going to go to the site now, so I added the link to this video.

If you want to check it out on the site.

The whole thing it was pretty cool.

I even got to do like a Lightning talk at the end.

So good times.

So the website that Brian, all time I was Advent of code and let me add that to the list as well.

I did that whole Spiel just to be able to get into here to kind of interact with this.

So Advent of code, is that, hmm?

Okay, kind of hard to see how this light right now?

I can't see.

Okay, so what, okay our okay, I was friends with something like this, okay?

So alright, so this is the sponsor here and then so there's so you can see like it started from the first.

And, so I guess we're on the with three, we're on.

Okay, so we have the fourth day and the fifth one doesn't happen until seven hours.

So that makes sense.

Cool.

And they go all the way to the 25th.

So let us check out the about page.

It says hi, I am Eric vassal out of his German or west, or I am not sure I make Advent of code.

I hope you like it.

I also made vanilla Jas.

But he made vanilla, he's made.

But what is this?

Oh, it's a fast.

Lightweight cross platform framework for building incredible powerful.

Oh, okay.

Well, that's cool.

All right.

Oh, I guess.

Okay.

So you choose whatever you want and then you download it.

That's pretty cool.

Nice.

Okay.

Neither here.

I am getting sidetracked.

Okay, so then it's the main bunch of stuff.

Super cool adventure.

Advent of code is an advent calendar.

Then go to Wikipedia to was Advent, calendar is of small, programming puzzles for a variety of skill sets and skill levels.

That can be solved in any programming language.

You like people use them as interview prep company, training University course, work, practice problems, a speed contest or to challenge each other.

Cool.

It goes through a bunch of stuff.

Awesome.

Oh, it's cool.

You don't need a computer science background to participate, just a little programming knowledge.

And some problem solving skills will get you pretty far.

Nor do you need a fancy computer?

Every problem has a solution that complete completes in at most 15 seconds on 10 year old Hardware nice.

All right cool.

So that's the about Brian kind of went over that events.

From here, you can access all the events and the corresponding puzzle leaderboard stats ever run on a bit of code.

So, okay, shop.

Oh cool.

Oh, that opens a new thing.

Obviously liked.

You can buy.

What?

Oh, t-shirts and things very nice.

Cool.

Super cool.

All right.

Coming.

I am sure it takes money to get this thing running, so let us see.

Then you can log-in.

What do you use to login, curious?

Zoom GitHub, Google, Twitter, Reddit.

All right, the calendar which I am assuming is what's getting you either calendar plus.

So, it's free to use how we're building and running admin account.

Code takes a significant amount of my time and energy.

I can imagine if you liked a bit of code would like more things like it in the future and able to do so please support.

I have been a code And then you can give you support things like infrastructure, hosting, bandwidth, Etc.

Time.

Spent running Evan accorded vents time, spent building, puzzles more future projects, my Sushi addiction, that's funny.

And Cool.

And then Okay.

You do PayPal or if you must coinbase.

All right, cool, let us see here.

Sponsors co-sponsoring Contribution, users, and sponsors, help, make a code event Advent of code.

Possible your organization's interested in becoming a sponsor that for having a code 20 22, please email sponsorship at, yes, Okay.

Aah refs.

Twilio Quest.

Scotland.

Oak Island.

That's super cool smarty.

October King at school, they have like open roles of their like, little vaginas, pretty cool.

Oh, King made of Candy Crush.

It looks like I guess they create Unforgettable games.

Okay Center.

All right, TC G player.

We got a bunch of folks.

That's pretty awesome.

That's good to see.

Quite a bit.

Wow, that's kind of cool.

Oh, wow.

Is even more Okay, super cool.

All right.

You there.

Okay, what we got here leaderboard?

So these are the folks, let us see.

Okay, so I guess they would have a 0 C plus they help support they like donated at school, and so we're at 7:06 All right, all within us as we got I wonder because we're on the fourth day per day.

So Okay so yes, its different person.

All right.

Oh I guess is how quickly so my speed.

So I guess the fastest person did it in 1 minute 26 seconds and then let us was 1 minute 27 seconds.

Oh wow it's super close.

Okay, that's super cool.

All right, not sure how the scoring system works.

Let us take a look at stats.

Golden to the users that have completed both part.

So there're two parts of the puzzle.

I guess while silver indicates that completed only the first half Okay.

All right.

Also, each star represents for 4562 users.

That's a lot of people, cool.

Alright, so let us take a look at the calendar then I guess.

So, let us take a look at the latest one.

All right, so space needs to be cleared before the last supplies can be unloaded from the ships and so, several elves.

Because again, it's a Christmas-themed have been assigned.

The job of cleaning up sections of the camp.

Every section has a unique ID number all right, and each elf is assigned a range of section IDs.

However, as some of the elves, compare their section assignments, with each other, they notice that many of the assignments overlap.

Well, I guess if you want to, because if, If it's a big area, I mean you're going to want multiple people, right?

But anyways, here to quickly try to quickly find overlaps and reduce duplicated effort else, pair up and make a big list of the section assignments.

For each pair, your puzzle input, okay?

For example, consider the following list of section assignment pairs, right?

So somebody got 2 4 and 6 to 8 and then so yeah, so there's 1, so it's 1, 2, 3, 4, 56 was like 12 elves, altogether, Maybe.

I am reading that, right?

And then for the first few pairs, this list means within the first pair of elves, the first elf was assigned sections 2 through 4.

So 2 3 & 4.

While the second output the science section 6 through, 8 6 7 & 8, the elves in the second pair were assigned to sections.

So just to and so 2 & 3 4 & 5, let us see.

And the Elgin a third pair of signed Three sections, okay, one, got five, six, seven and otherwise seven, eight, nine, cool.

This example list uses single-digit section IDs to make it easier to draw your actual list.

Might contain larger numbers, visually these pairs of section assignments.

Look like this.

Okay.

Okay, so I guess just nine and then you just all right, cool?

So what?

Okay, so some of the parents have noticed that one of their assignments fully contains the other, for example, 238 fully contains three to seven and 626 is fully contained in four to six.

A were one assignment fully contains the other one elf in the pair would be exclusively cleaning sections.

Their partner will already be cleaning.

So these seem like the most in need of reconsideration.

And this example, there are two such pairs In and how many assignments peers does one range fully contained the other?

Okay?

Cool.

Oh, and you have to login to be able to answer it.

That's an interesting question.

All right, but yet over time, so I am gonna get you all back to work because there's stuff I want to get done.

So I am going to stop this screen, share and set it up to send you off with some traveling music.

Again.

Thanks for hanging out.

Let us see here.

We're going to hear now is new Jabez.

Featuring a Pawnee be the track is called.

Thank you.

Because again thanks for hanging out.

I will see you 15 minutes after the hour.

But final break session and for this one, unless somebody signs up for the show-and-tell, when take a look at artists website and listen to some music, we watch some videos and maybe you will find a new artist to enjoy.

All right, so again, thanks for hanging out.

I wish you much productivity.

Here we go.

There's new Japan's, featuring, a Pawnee, be the track is called, thank you.

Thanks again for hanging out.

I will see y'all next break.

All right, 15 minutes after our talk to you later.
